Set up your home Painting practice!
Experience the joy and convenience of creating/painting from home in a supportive zoom class.
I am passionate about supporting folks to have a regular creativity practice. We were all born with creative life force energy flowing through us. No one needs any training or talent. All you need is courage, curiosity and willingness to explore.
Setting Up for Painting via Zoom Meetings
The experience of painting together online will be different from what you are used to if you have been painting in the classes. But our intuitive voice—our process of tapping into creativity—can find its way, even in this virtual space.
Using Zoom
You don’t need to create your own Zoom account, but you will need to download the Zoom Client software. I will send you a link that you can use each time you come to class.
Painting Materials and Home Setup
Use what you have!
You can use whatever paints, brushes and paper you have on hand. I highly recommend the materials below for this process though.
Material Suggestions
Brushes:
Richeson Squirrel Brush set of 5: https://www.rexart.com/product1157.html
In addition to the set of 5 above, order a Richeson round size 8 or 9.
Richeson brushes available at Rex Art www.rexart.com/jck_series2040_brushes.html
Synthetic Squirrel Hair Blend: www.amazon.com/Professional-Watercolor-Squirrel-Synthetic-Painting/dp/B07QMPTDXH/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3B477UGE2ZBZR&keywords=synthetic+squirrel+hair+brush&qid=1662086607&sprefix=synthethetic+squirrel+hair+brush%2Caps%2C95&sr=8-4
It is also nice to have a hard "scribble brush" for fast painting to meet inner intensity at times. This is a good one:

Paint:
We use a high quality tempera paint available at Dickblick: Blick premium tempera paint.
I would order 6 basic colors of Blick premium tempera paints : https://www.dickblick.com/items/00011-0069/
Plus a bottle of brown, orange, magenta, purple, teal, flourescent pink, peach, and an extra bottle of white for mixing.
You can use an ice cube tray (they make them with lids now or you can cover with Saran Wrap) to store paint.
Or buy a paint kit off Etsy (with Dick Blick premium tempera paint):

I also recommend this Gouache paint set from Amazon for at home painting and traveling. These paints mix well with the Dick Blick paint too.

Paper:
The studio buys paper in bulk. It is 80# Bristol Vellum, 26x20 inches. I sell it for a two dollars a sheet.
But feel free to purchase similar paper, not exactly the same size but close enough, through Dickblick:
- Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Pad - 19'' x 24'', Vellum, 20 Sheets: https://www.dickblick.com/items/13307-1001/ or
- Blick Bristol Pad - 19'' x 24'', Vellum, 15 Sheets: https://www.dickblick.com/items/13329-1019/
Boards/Backing to Protect Your Walls:
Celotex or fiber boards (also called sound boards), available at building supply stores (shown in picture at top of page).
Inexpensive and lightweight alternative: Trifold poster board works great. I sell these for $10 or you can purchase them on Amazon : www.amazon.com/s?k=trifold+poster+board+36+x+48+white&crid=IG4XICRE0RGH&sprefix=tri+fold+poster+boards+36+x+48%2Caps%2C626&ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_4_28
You can also just paint on a big piece of cardboard or tape up shipping paper or plastic sheets( that you cover furniture with) with painters tape to protect the walls. These boards are great to use: Get creative. It doesn't have to be perfect. I have a roll of thick shipping paper and would be glad to let someone use some long sheets of it if they would like. I put towels on the floor to protect the area but canvas or cardboard could be used as well.
This process painter has lots of supplies for painters. Anything from here would be great as well!
